There Are 43 Hidden Sparrows In 'The Umbrella Academy' Season 2

If you've already watched season 2 of The Umbrella Academy, you may have another excuse to re-watch the season in its entirety.

Netflix recently revealed that there's not one, not 20, but 43 hidden sparrows in the 10 episodes of season 2.

“If you think I’m gonna rewatch every episode to try and find them all you’re absolutely right,” one fan commented on Instagram while another wrote, “ literally just finished rewatching season 2 for the second time yall are really making me wanna watch it again to count some sparrows hahaha i love it here.”

Now if you're a casual fan of the hit show you may be thinking, “What? Why sparrows and why are there 43 of them hidden in the show?”

Well, the answers are easy. For starters, there are specifically 43 sparrows because there were exactly 43 “extraordinary” babies born on October 1, 1989 — including the seven Hargreeves children who were adopted by Reginald Hargreeves (but you already knew that).

As for why sparrows, if you haven't finished season 2 there will be a spoiler below.

In the last episode of season 2 when the Hargreeves siblings time travel, they find themselves at home but instead of it being The Umbrella Academy, they land at The Sparrow Academy — spearheaded by Ben who is very much alive. The Sparrow Academy features all-new “extraordinary” children born on the same day as our beloved seven.

The sparrows aren't the only Easter eggs to pop up in the new season, showrunner Steve Blackman revealed that Easter eggs were actually mapped out to include in the new season.

“We specifically wanted to sit down and say, ‘Here are the Easter eggs we want to put in, let’s make a list of them.’ They’re everywhere. I think the fans will get a real kick once you start realizing what we’ve put in,” he said.
