YouTube Video Leads To Arrest Of Speeder Who Hit 198 MPH In Dodge Hellcat

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol arrested a driver who was recorded hitting 198 miles per hour on US-1 in Wake County in a Dodge Challenger Hellcat. The driver, identified as 22-year-old William Jefferson, was busted after a tipster sent a video to the police that had been uploaded to YouTube showing Jefferson racing against a motorcycle down the highway while onlookers cheered on the side of the road.

In the video, recorded by a passenger in the muscle car, the speedometer can be seen steadily climbing as Jefferson speeds down the highway while being chased by a motorcycle that was struggling to keep pace.

As he hits the top speed, Williams points to the speedometer and says, "198, boys and girls. It's a true Hellcat and she still run good."

The video then cuts to show bystanders on the highway cheering as the Hellcat and motorcycle are vying for position on the empty highway.

Police arrested Jefferson and charged him with being in a prearranged speed competition, speeding and reckless driving.
